Partition Horrors Day & Independence Day

79th Independence Day after the horrors of Partition || Why is Partition Remembrance Day opposed? || How did India become a Dharamshala of Secularism

On 15 August 2025, India celebrated its 79th Independence Day, for which I wish you all the best. When people used to send congratulatory messages to each other on social media saying, “Happy Independence Day”, I don’t know why I didn’t like it from within. It felt like wishing happiness to a house where many heinous murders had taken place. I felt a shy of relief when Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced to celebrate Partition Horrors Memorial Day on 14 August every year and it started being celebrated from 14 August 2021. The reality of how big a price this country in general and Hindus in particular have paid for independence was deliberately hidden.

The feeling of independence is very good but the events that happened a day before India’s first Independence Day, 15 August 1947, are extremely inhuman, unimaginable and painful. The memories of which are so bitter and painful that it hurts the conscience a lot. The partition of India was one of the biggest human tragedies of the 20th century. Jawahar Lal Nehru who had become the Prime Minister on 2 September 1946 under the British rule, was releasing white pigeons with his own hands after getting the honour of being the first Prime Minister of independent India by the transfer of power and the Congress was celebrating the coming to power. Millions of Hindus coming from East and West Pakistan were paying a very heavy price for independence but  Gandhi was protecting his beloved community in Kolkata by ignoring all this and spreading the message of appeasement.

When Pakistan was formed on 14 August 1947 because of the partition of India, more than 20 million Hindus living there got the final warning to leave Pakistan immediately. In a hurry, these people ran towards the border, wherever they were. It is very difficult to even imagine what happened to these unfortunate Hindus. After looting money, goods and belongings, their houses were set on fire. More than 50 thousand mothers, sisters, daughters were raped. More than one million people were killed. Trains coming from Pakistan were filled with dead bodies. The stories of barbarism send chills down the spine. The infants who survived inside the train were starving and searching for their mother's breasts among the dead bodies, but the brutal killers had cut off their mother's necks as well as breasts. All this was not done by Gori, Ghaznavi, Babar and Aurangzeb, it was done by Gandhi and Nehru's most loved people, for whom Congress had divided India and created Pakistan. If we look at the root of the events, this horror was the result of Gandhi's appeasement for a particular community, Nehru's lust for power and the anti-Hindu character of the big leaders of Congress. Socialist leader Ram Manohar Lohia has written in his book 'Guilty Men of Partitionthat many senior Congress leaders, including Nehru, were power hungry, due to which the partition happened.

Unfortunately, so far, neither the lust for power of the Congress has decreased nor the ignorance of Hindus in understanding the Congress. Under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, the Congress is adopting every trick to gain power. Selective attacks are being made on constitutional bodies. Rahul Gandhi, who is spreading lies after lies, wants to destabilize the Modi government in some way or the other. After Modi became the Prime Minister for the third time, the patience of the Congress has run out, so now it has no qualms in joining hands with foreign anti-India powers to remove Modi. Rahul Gandhi has been working to malign Indian democracy at the international level by meeting anti-India elements during his visits to Britain and America. First, questions were raised on EVMs and when the Election Commission challenged him to prove the EVM tampering, Rahul adopted a new trick. Now he has accused the Election Commission of stealing votes for Modi so that the entire election process of Modi's third term can be made suspicious and a situation like Bangladesh can be created. Recently, the elected government of Sheikh Hasina was ousted in Bangladesh by raising the issue of dubious election process. Now the same trick is being used by Congress in India at the behest of foreign powers. Congress has no hesitation in taking the help of China, Pakistan and America in toppling or destabilizing the Modi government.

It is very important to celebrate 14th August every year as 'Partition Horrors Memorial Day' from the point of view that we should learn from history to determine the present and plan for the future. This day is to remember and pay tribute to the unbearable pain, suffering and inhuman terror suffered by millions of people during the partition of India. Its purpose is not only to remember that horrific tragedy, but also to learn from that dark chapter of history and educate and alert our children accordingly, so that such a tragedy does not recur in the future.

Hindus by their very nature could not remember the inhumane atrocities committed by invaders for hundreds of years and started believing in unreliable persons like Gandhi-Nehru. This resulted in heartrending riots like Mopla and Noakhali and Hindu genocide by Direct Action Day. The person who had assured Hindus that the country would be divided over his dead body, betrayed the Hindus and not only accepted the partition of the country on the basis of religion, but also did not allow Muslims to leave India. Gandhi and Nehru, working shoulder to shoulder with Jinnah, on one hand created Islamic Pakistan, while on the other hand made India a secular Dharmashala (a residence, free for all) in the form of shared farming.

When the country is celebrating the Amrit Mahotsav of Independence, paying respectful tribute to the citizens who lost their lives due to Partition is certainly welcome, but the Kerala government called it anti-constitutional when the Partition Horror Memorial Day was celebrated. At the same time, leftist and Islamic organizations beat up the people participating in the program and forced them to stop the program. Posters with the photo of the Governor were also burnt. This is the same class which has been hiding the mistakes of those responsible for the Partition and the truth of the killings of millions of people. All the opposition parties including Congress have opposed this event on the grounds that it will reopen old wounds and spoil communal harmony, but in my opinion, this is nothing but appeasement to a particular community, the purpose behind which is to strengthen the vote bank by communal polarization.

The poignant situation of that time has been depicted in literature written about the Partition in various Indian languages including Punjabi, Urdu, Hindi and in English. The communal violence and riots in various parts of India and the cruelty and pervasiveness of these riots have raised questions on humanity. The answers to these questions have not been found till date, but the Congress governments have raised counter questions on these questions. The violence of partition was even more cruel than the violence of invaders and its aim was to wipe out the physical presence of India's Sanatan culture and the original inhabitants. What happened to the minorities who remained in Pakistan and Bangladesh is not hidden from anyone. In both the countries, inhuman atrocities are being committed against the Hindu minorities who have remained in very small numbers. Most of the political parties of India remained silent on the recent Hindu massacre in Bangladesh, the reason for which is appeasement for the greed of votes. This disease which had led to the partition of India has once again reached on the verge of repeating history.

There is a huge challenge before all Indians, especially Hindus, to keep India as India. To cope with this, they need mutual unity. In order to break the unity of Hindus, a caste-based conspiracy is being hatched and people are getting entangled in it. If we want to save the country, we will have to avoid this and break the labyrinth of political parties, otherwise history is on the verge of repeating itself.
